Educational Opportunities for Military Families

We Are Proud to Honor the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Families

Military families move, on average, three times more often than non-military families. These transitions can impact students’ access to extracurricular activities, course placement, and the ability to meet graduation requirements.

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Families helps ensure that children of active-duty service members receive the same opportunities for educational success as their peers. The Compact works to prevent military students from being penalized or delayed in achieving their academic goals because of differing or inflexible state and district policies.

By participating in the Compact, states agree to coordinate policies related to:

  • Transfer of student records
  • Course and program placement
  • Graduation requirements
  • Enrollment and eligibility for extracurricular activities
  • Other key administrative procedures
