National Junior Honor Society
St Mary Star of the Sea School sponsors the St Catherine of Sienna Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Members are chosen on the basis of scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership, and character. The chapter initiates members in the spring with an average membership of 8-12 members. Each May, the chapter, initiated new members. The chapter initiates service projects for the school and community such as sponsoring students at a Catholic school in Haiti, feeding the poor at St. Vincent de Paul Church outreach, and helping teachers in their classrooms.
National Junior Honor Society
Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade who exhibit academic success, leadership, character, service, and good citizenship may be nominated by the faculty to membership in the National Junior Honor Society. The nomination process takes place in the spring of each school year, and students are nominated on the basis of proven academic success (honor roll), behavior, service, and responsibility. Academic and conduct standards must be maintained throughout their time at Saint Mary.
