Hispanic Heritage Festival

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month which takes place each year between September 15 and October 15, Saint Mary Star of the Sea School will hold its annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Thursday, September 28 starting at 9 a.m. The theme for this year is The Diablada as it is celebrated in Oruro, Bolivia. The dance is a mixture of religious theatrical presentations brought from Spain and Andean religious ceremonies in which the performers wear a mask of a devil to represent evil and the wings of Michael the Archangel to represent good.

The Hispanic festival will also feature students in a parade of flags with students wearing traditional masks, including the Vegigantes from Puerto Rico, theCabezudos from Spain and the Gigantes from Costa Rica. Students will also be tasting Mexican tamales and Panamanian rice provided by Mrs. Olvera, mother of Candela (1st) and Leonardo (4th).
